Toyota South Africa, official vehicle supplier to Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the Proteas, will once again tour the country with its ever popular Fathers and Sons’ Cricket Clinics. The clinics, which were introduced in 2008, have traditionally sold out within the first week of ticket sales being released and this year there should be no exception.
The cricket clinics are held as one day events and are open to children aged between 6 and 13, with the parents encouraged to attend and watch their youngsters receive coaching from various Proteas and provincial players on stretching, bowling, batting, fielding and nutrition. Shaun Pollock, well known Protea legend and a proud Toyota ambassador will spearhead the coaching at the nationwide clinics.
CSA CEO Gerald Majola commended Toyota for their proactive approach to cricket development, and their contribution to shaping tomorrow.
“CSA encourages our commercial partners to play a significant role in the development of cricket in South Africa. This is a wonderful initiative from Toyota, and CSA hopes that up and coming cricketers get down to their local event, and be part of the festivities of the 2010 Toyota Fathers and Sons’ Cricket Clinics.”
The 2010 campaign, also known as the ‘Come play with your hero’s and Corolla’ campaign will kick off in Durban at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead on 1 August and, thanks to an entry price of only R95, more than 600 participants are expected. Next up, and for the first time in the Father and Sons history, will be East London’s Buffalo Park one week later on 8 August. Following on from this second event will be a double header in Johannesburg on 21 and 22 August at the world renowned Bidvest Wanderers, otherwise known as the Bull Ring
South African favourite Shaun Pollock is delighted to once again be involved with this initiative:
“Being a professional sportsman became a full time job, so I unfortunately wasn’t able to donate as much of my time back in to today’s youth as I would’ve liked. I know that I am not the only player to feel this way, which is why these clinics are a superb thing to be involved in. I strongly encourage all enthusiastic young cricketers to go online and register, bring your bat with you on the day, and I and my fellow cricketers will see you at the ground!”
Marius Vorster, Vice President: Marketing at Toyota South Africa, is thoroughly looking forward to bringing our nations cricketing heroes to the children of today:
“Toyota South Africa has a strong focus on the youth and on education and a nationwide clinic such as this offers a fantastic opportunity to share skills and educate the youth. This year’s event is bound to top the scoreboard, with more Proteas involved in more events. Our objective is to see to it that every child that attends receives the attention that they deserve and that smiles are the all round delivery of the day!”
Perhaps the highlight of the day is the signing session, which will be held as the clinic draws to a close. Other highlights include a cooking display by a professional chef for all the parents present, lunch for all those who attend and a live DJ.
