Rohan (Rajat Barmecha) has been abandoned for eight straight years in boarding school. Now he returns to the small industrial town of Jamshedpur and finds himself closeted with a strict and severe father and a younger half brother Rohan didn’t even know existed.
Rohan is forced to work in his father’s steel factory and study engineering against his wishes - not the life he had been dreaming of for the past eight years. And so Rohan does his best to create his own future out of his given circumstances and pursue his ambition of being a writer.
The single word of the title literally means to take flight.
'Udaan' was officially selected to compete in the 2010 Cannes Film Festival ‘Un Certain Regard’ (A Certain Look). The category was introduced 12 years ago to recognise young talent and encourage innovative and daring work.
