The underworld - is it where the souls of the departed go? Or is it where you find the crime organisations that pressure government while making money from drugs, kidnapping, assassination, firearms?
‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai’ is the latest Bollywood drama from Nu Metro and draws its drama from the crime underworld in India’s most populous city - while sending the souls of a few characters to the other place.
The movie, which is also known as Mumbai Goes Rewind, is directed by Milan Luthria and stars Ajay Devgan, Emraan Hashmi, Prachi Desai, and Kangana Ranaut.
The story is seen through the eyes of a police officer and traces the changing face of the Mumbai underworld. It is set primarily in 1970 and follows the rise of Sultan (Ajay Devgan). Sultan finds a protégé to groom, Shoaib (Emraan Hashmi), but Shoaib is impatient in his drive for success and can’t help but challenge the supremacy of his patron.
Who comes out the victor? Will Sultan fall and thus open the door to Shoaib’s takeover of the murky underbelly of Mumbai? Or will Sultan see the writing on the wall and put an end to this upstart and would-be userper? That’s the question, and the answer is a dramatic one in this super Bollywood latest.
