Vampires Suck - Show Times

Vampires Suck

From motion picture parodists Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, comes a comedy with real bite. After successfully skewering Hollywood's scariest movie (as two of the writers of 'Scary Movie'), romantic comedy franchises ('Date Movie'), Hollywood blockbusters ('Epic Movie'), disaster films ('Disaster Movie'), and '300' ('Meet the Spartans'), Friedberg and Seltzer are at it again. This time, they sink their teeth into today’s hottest pop culture phenomena: vampires and werewolves.

The setting for their story is Sporks, Washington, where something very strange is going on. Located in the conveniently misty woods of the Pacific Northwest, Sporks is a small town getting smaller by the day thanks to its rapidly diminishing population. Worried locals are clueless as to the cause of recent mutilations, the latest being Fisherman Sculley, who is found murdered with his blood drained and multiple bite wounds on his neck.

Then again, they're oblivious to just about everything… which is why it strikes no one as odd that a local liquor store advertises "Ice Cold Blood - AB Positive 6 Packs On Sale"; a homeless man holds a sign that reads "Will work for blood"; Vinny's pizzeria features food that is "Hot, Fresh and Garlic Free"; and the local dental office signage features a picture of a smiling mouth, complete with a set of fangs.

Enter Becca Crane (Jenn Proske), an anti-social, long suffering loner and all-around sourpuss full of insecurities and deep-seeded angst no mere mortal could ever understand. In other words, she's your typical American teen. Becca has just left home in Phoenix, returning to Sporks to live with her overprotective father, Frank (Diedrich Bader). Welcomed with open arms by the kids at her new school, Becca naturally feels sad and misunderstood. She soon encounters the mysterious Sullen family, who are impossibly attractive, extremely private and unlike anyone she has ever met - and for good reason: the Sullens are a family of immortal bloodsuckers who have learned to live the vampire equivalent of a vegetarian lifestyle.

Becca becomes hopelessly enchanted with Edward Sullen (Matt Lanter), who is handsome, moody and tortured with his signature tower-like (but always fashionably tussled) hairstyle. Becca is completely lovelorn, feeling a major connection to the pale dude with the big hair and constipated look. Edward feels the same way, and thinks Becca is his soul mate. Yet he tries to keep her at arm's length, fearing the attraction will lead to an uncontrollable eating frenzy on his part - which, by the way, Becca says she's totally cool with.

It isn’t long before Becca's lust for all things undead attracts the attention of a group of nomadic vampires who don’t share the Sullens' moral problems about drinking human blood. Becca also gets noticed by Jacob White (Chris Riggi), who starts undergoing a strange transformation of his own that has him peeing on hydrants, chasing stray cats and sporting a wolf tail from the seat of his pants.
