Algernod Lanier Washington born on May 22, 1976 in Fort Myers, Florida, better known by his stage name Plies. Plies started Big Gates Records with his brother Ronell Lawrence Levatte, also known as Big Gates, in 1999.

Levatte served as CEO, President, among other things, while Plies initially developed the label's artists. Big Gates Records also contracted national rap artists to perform in Southwest Florida venues.

Plies initially refused to rap, however after a demonstration for one of his artist."For me, real is being a responsible father, being a support system for my homies that's f#$%^&d up in the system, staying true to my beliefs, and staying loyal to the ni***s who done been with me for so many years.," says Plies.
