Tafi Dube
Williams” as he has become to be known in Bulawayo and beyond has defied all the odds, stood against disability and become a trademark of country music in the city and Zimbabwe as a whole.
The blind musician who each day wows and charms shoppers, passersby, tourists and musical enthusiasts in the city centre as he strums away his home made guitar and modified P.A. System is destined to scale to dizzy heights. One may be forgiven for mistaking him for legends such as Don Williams, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and closer to home South African Steve Kekana.
Tafi arguably deserves credit for making American country music popular in Zimbabwe and yet making it appeal to both young and old audiences. Despite growing up blind and in the rural areas back in the 60’s and during the colonial white rule, Tafi has never looked back since then. Music producers, promoters and record companies surprisingly ignored his music abilities and talent for time memorial but Tafi has weathered all these storms.
In all little ways, he went on to write his own success story playing unplugged music in Bulawayo streets much to the love of music fanatics all over the world who visit the city. In this album, Tafi has come to realize his age old dream. Now the time has come for him to write his own chapter in the book of historical talented yet disabled legendaries in this debut album.
Like wine, he has grown better each day he plays his guitar. With age he has matured with time he has blossomed and this musical masterpiece is a testimony that Tafi is gem out of a pearl. Enjoy it….!!
