Shontelle - No Gravity
Universal Motown pop sensation Shontelle's explosive summer single, 'Impossible,' has soared to No. 9 on Billboard's Pop Song chart, No. 12 on Billboard's Digital Songs chart, and No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Also ranked No. 1 on Music Choice's Hit List and No. 1 Most-Added at Urban AC R&R, the heartfelt midtempo ballad is the lead single from the Bajan singer-songwriter's upcoming second album, No Gravity.
Shontelle's slow and steady takeover of the Billboard charts is further proof that the Barbados native, who previously scored a Top 40 entry in 2008 with her gold-certified debut single, 'T-Shirt,' which sold more than 1 million copies worldwide, is quickly gathering mainstream-sized momentum leading up to the hotly anticipated release of No Gravity.
Indeed, to garner a Top 10 pop hit and gain the respect of radio listeners and programmers is a strong indication that Shontelle, who is currently featured as Clear Channel's Pop Featured Artist of July, is poised to take her rightful place among today's biggest names in pop, including Katy Perry, Ke$ha, and Taio Cruz.
Billboard raves that 'Impossible' is 'one of the year's standout female vocal performances,' adding that it recalls 'the poignancy and technical precision of Beyoncé's ‘Irreplaceable.'' Co-written by Swedish producer Arnthor Birgisson (Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson) and Norwegian singer/songwriter Ina Wroldsen, 'Impossible' is the definitive breakup anthem of the summer.
Driven by an infectious piano melody, the track finds Shontelle lamenting an ill-fated romance gone sour with powerful emotion as she sings, 'Tell them all I know now / Shout it from the rooftops / Write it on the sky line / All we had is gone now.'
