John Ellis - Rural

Country, Folk-Rock
Rural

John Ellis, former lead singer of Tree63, has released a singer-songwriter style album.

The CD, simply entitled 'Rural', is a stripped-down and acoustic collection of poetry and protest with a sound and ethos that can be described as simple, uncluttered and uncomplicated.

"Recording this album the way we did and keeping away from over produced commercial production was really a personal validation for me as a song writer and it gave me an opportunity to record and express myself and call on various influences such as Dylan and Lennon," commented Ellis.

'Rural' was recorded live over a period of 3 days at Peace of Eden in Knysna. Mixed by Neil Snyman, the recording has intentionally captured and preserved the live feel and moments of the performance.

'Rural' features Johnny Clegg's drummer, world-renowned percussionist Barry van Zyl, who performed his parts live with John in the studio. It marks a drastic stylistic departure for John from his previous solo album 'Come Out Fighting' which was nominated in 2010 for a "Rock Album of the Year" South African Music Award.
