Miles Davis - The Collection

Jazz
The Collection

The history of jazz is filled with stories of fine musicians dying in obscurity, great innovators never getting their due, and even of some musicians getting credit for the innovations of others. But history got this one right. The Collection is a selection of Miles Davis tracks from the Blue Note years.

Deception is a George Shearing composition although Miles did write the arrangement. Boplicity was written by Miles and Gil Evans and arranged by Evans. It is perhaps the most successful tune on the record, achieving all the qualities the group was aiming for.

On other tracks, Miles trademark lyrical and bluesy solos come through, with his strongest effort coming through on "Ray's Idea".

Every jazz musician is indebted to Miles Davis in some way, and this collection shows why.
