Roy Orbison - Black & White Night

Rock
Black & White Night

This is a recording of Roy Orbison's hugely acclaimed comeback concert in 1997. It was originally filmed and aired on HBO in the States. It is widely considered a classic live recording.

As a live concert, Black & White Night is unmissable. It features 17 classics by the Big O with an all-star backing band and a slew of very special guests.

Among the latter are Jackson Browne, T Bone Burnett, Elvis Costello, k.d. lang, Bonnie Raitt, J.D. Souther, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits and Jennifer Warnes.

It was T Bone Burnett who put together this dazzling cast to capture Orbison's resurgent career. The latter had been spurred when Orbison re-recorded a version of his classic "In Dreams" which appeared in the David Lynch movie, Blue Velvet.

It was further given momentum by news that Orbison was to record both with the Traveling Wilburys and his swansong album, Mystery Girl.

No mere tribute, Black & White Night was a true band effort. It saw Orbison and his special guests run through Orbison's classics like "Only The Lonely", "Running Scared" and "Oh, Pretty Woman".

The concert showcased Orbison's heartstopping voice, which was in just as fine form as it was in his 1960s heyday.
