The Essential Roy Orbison

2006 is the year that Roy Orbison would have turned 70 had he lived and the release of THE ESSENTIAL ROY Orbison is part of a celebration of the extraordinary work of Texas-born Roy Kelton Orbison.

Orbison died in 1988 but his stature and legacy continue to grow and, over the years, his music has kept shining.

The Essential Roy Orbison gathers together the singer's best songs in one great career-spanning collection. The collection pulls together a total of 42 tracks that originally appeared on Sun, Monument, Virgin, MGM, Warner Bros., Mercury and Def Jam labels, reaching back as far as 1956.

Disc 1 is filled with 21 tracks of pure classic Orbison featuring recognisable hits like "Only The Lonely," "Crying," "Dream Baby," "It's Over" and of course "Oh, Pretty Woman.

Disc 2 contains songs from Orbison's later recordings.

You Got It," "She's A Mystery To Me," "California Blue," "The Only One" and "A Love So Beautiful” ensure it's as compelling listening as Disc 1.

Also included is the 1980 duet he does with Emmylou Harris called "That Lovin' You Feeling Again."

The two re-recorded songs are "Running Scared" (1985) and "In Dreams" (1987).

The release of The Essential Roy Orbison is part of SONY BMG's Legacy Recordings label's campaign that will see virtually everything Roy Orbison ever recorded released.

The campaign has already seen the reissue of Black And White Night, a 1987 star-studded concert that profiled just what a unique artist Orbison was.
